My Training: Week in Review – Jan. 13th-19th

I’m going to start posting my training on here in the form of weekly reviews. While my volume is nothing special right now, I think it will help to motivate me to have some accountability if all of you folks out there can see my training. I’m still on the come-back train from a 5 month long battle with ITBS but hopefully soon my training will get back up to a level that would be worth following or checking in on.

I also recently started to post my training on Attackpoint which is a site used my many ultra runners to track their weekly stats using their GPS devices. My username is chaseparnell so if any of you use Attackpoint, comment on my log and I’ll put you on my favorites.

Week of January 13th-19th
Sunday: Rest…this was my 6th day off in a row due to cold/flu like symptoms. I was super bummed about this illness as I was just starting to get things rolling again.

Monday: Still Sick

Tuesday: Ran with Nikki out Kim Williams Trail from U of Montana with a little hit up Hells Canyon Trail. Hacking a bit but still felt good to get out!
Run: 29:37
Distance: 3.11 miles
Pace: 9:31/mile
Elevation Gain: 400 feet

Wednesday: Run out into the Waterworks Complex in the hills next to the Rattlesnake here in Missoula, MT. Nice little loop from home. Will probably be doing that one quite a bit. Lots of snow these days! I also got an afternoon skate ski session in with Nikki out in the Rattlesnake too. Starting to get the rhythm down for sure!
Run: 52:29
Distance: 6.17
Pace: 8:30
Elevation Gain: 971 feet

Skate Ski: 50:36
Distance:4.4 miles
Elevation Gain: 180 feet

Here’s a kind of pointless video but at least you will get a feel for the environment. So good to be outdoors.

Thursday: Ran same loop as yesterday up in Waterworks with my cousin Ander. We ran one minute slower but the conversation was good. Such a pretty day and run!
Run: 53:42
Distance: 6.16 miles
Pace: 8:43/mile
Elevation Gain: 922 feet

Friday: Skate Ski out Patte Canyon with Nikki. Had my first real crash today! Pretty steep little pitch heading down…even with full on pizza wedge I was going too fast. Had to fall to stop the momentum. Good times. Nikki even worked with me on some drills that she used to do when she raced in high school.

Skate Ski: 1:15:40
Distance: 4.67
Elevation Gain: 427 feet

Saturday: Did a bigger loop out in Waterworks. Lots of ups and downs. Feeling pretty good again! Starting to dream about racing…it’s been awhile since that’s happened. Looking forward to what’s to come!

Run: 1:20:01
Distance: 9.01 miles
Pace: 8:53/mile
Elevation Gain: 1,579 feet

Weekly Totals:
Run: 3:35:49
Distance: 24.45 miles
Pace: 8:50/mile average
Elevation Gain: 3,872 feet
Average Elevation Gain/Mile: 158 ft/mile

XC Ski: 2:06:16
Distance: 9.07 miles
Elevation Gain: 607

Alright, so that’s that! This week was a great comeback week. I’m feeling great now. Sickness gone. Injuries gone. Nothing should stop me. Let’s keep it up!

Next week goal: 40-50 miles with lots of hills…and some more strength stuff. Time to start building…

Hey Chase – Congrats on the upcoming wedding and getting back in to training mode since your injuries. I just signed up for my first Half (SLO Marathon) since my knee surgery!

Thanks Kevin, ya life is a whirlwind right now but things are going really good. And congrats on getting back out there after that knee surgery. You must be operating pretty close to 100%? SLO Marathon, heard that’s a little hilly…good thing you live in Bend…plenty of hills around! :) Btw: i like your site…gluten free living is interesting. Do you still not drink milk?

Yes I am mostly back to normal as far as knee function. I can’t eat dairy, wheat, or corn. Keeps me thin! hehe
